Avaya just announced 9/1 that the G700 is EOS 1/5/09. The replacement G450 is only compatable with CM 5.x and higher and is not stackable with exisiting G700s.

This is a major issue for us. We have no funds for remaining 08, have 2 new remote offices coming up next year and 3 with G700s we want to expand. We're also just going to 4.0 in October. In addition SSU costs are HUGE with 5.0

Is anyone else aware of this major change and how is it effecting you?

I know. But we saw this coming. You could always find a site to upgrade to G450 CM5. Then take their G700's and re use those to expand other sites. Just a thought.

Unfortunately, our BP didn't let us know it was coming and today is when we found out.

Our remote offices are LSPs, how could we do a 5.x with the G45s in this configuration?

G700's will be available on the refurb market for A LONG TIME.

When did mcc, scc, csi go end of sale?? There are tons of this stuff still available. If g700's still suit your needs, i would also suspect the 3rd party market will be flooded with these as people migrate to g450's. You will be forced to CM5, 6, 7 .....CM20 for business reasons long before the world runs out of g700's.

The CM5 SS+U is bad, but we have to face the fact that Avaya has chosen this business model, and we can't get away from it. The software development is going faster and faster. Avaya has already said that they no longer want to be a hardware vendor, but want to be a software vendor, and it is plain to see that is where it is going. If you always want to be able to use their latest software, you are going to have to jump on the SS+U bandwagon. I hate it, but I also don't want to get left behind, so I asked our management for extra money on my new site that it going in, and we are going to CM5.1 and paid up front for 3 years SS+U. I am waiting for the contracts to get signed, but it looks like we are going down that road, so we can have the software upgrades as they are released.

I am not one to get the latest and greatest as soon as it is available, I will wait for a few months, and then do it, but I still feel this is the best choice. Avaya is not going to change anytime soon.

There is a way to avoid the SSU when upgrading to CM 5.0 by keeping your utility maintenance in place. Your BP should be able to assist you with this approach.

Hi
you can opt for SS without the upgrade as told on the response
on the g700 chasis I have a customer with multiple g700 all over the EU, we replaced the s8300B to the C version and they are good for another few years.
Avaya rule is N-1 , so you can technically be one release behind of the current release. This only for support purposes if you happy ticking away for another 3 years on 4 there is no issue with that only when you have an issue that requires a "patch" then you will be in trouble

(i've seen a site on release 8 and customer was happy out with it )
