I am working with a G3. Regardless of what software I am using it locks up periodically for about 2 minutes at a time, give or take. I've tried turning off and on extensions. Nothing seems to make any difference. anyone have any ideas?

are you attached to a network?

if you are and using tcp/ip try going to the tcp/ip control panel and selecting advanced user ubder the edit menu.

click on options then you should see a box come up with a sentance "only load tcp/ip when required" if this is crossed uncheck it.

If you are on a network with cisco swiches check if the spanning tree option is on or off.

Thankyou for the tip, but the TCP/IP is not in use. I'm afraid to admit that I don't know what a spanning tree is or how to check it. If you wouldn't mind helping me out in that area I might just find the problem. And Yes, i am on a network using telephone style wires.

Maybe you just have the old Desktop Spool Print Monitor Virus, Remenber OS 8.xx

I am using OS 8.1 I am sure it has something to do with the server network because I can see and hear the server working while the G3 is locked up. Also I have noted that it happens every 30 min. for a duration of 2 min.

Do chekc for virus it looks hawfully similar. [sig][/sig]

Does this issue occur whether you have open applications or not?

I'm very curious about the network.
We have some similar networking issues.

Tell me more about your environment.
The network?? You mention telephone-style wires. I'm guessing ethernet cabling (rj-45). Resembles a telephone modular plug but it a bit larger. Plugs right into the port on the rear of your Mac? (Or the side of the iMac)

Are you constantly connected to your server??
And by that I mean is the server icon on your desktop all the time or do you have to connect to it when you need access?

More info !!!!
