Function Keys on Compaq Presario 900 !!Help!!

I have a Compaq Presario 900 Notebook and the ESC Key, All 12 Function Keys are not working. All other keys work fine, also the left and right arrow key are not doing what they are suppose to for example if this computer is using WORD or EXCEL when you push the left arrow key it opens up the OPEN File box and when you push the right arrow key the cursor/screen takes you right to the end of the spreadsheet or the file it is acting like the END key. Help is there a setting that I'm overlooking or is it toast. Thanks

what keyboard layout do you have, what is installed.
reinstall chipset/manufactor driver.
try a external keyboard, if its the same its windows, if its working its the keyboard itself.
what os. do you use accessibility features.
did you check the compaq faq?
and last, Presario 900 ca/cd/us ? there was one more i dont remeber yet.

The keyboard that is installed is a Std 101/102 Keyboard/Microsoft Natural PS2, I have tried the external keyboard and all the keys are fine using it. My OS is Windows XP Professional, I have tried Compaq FAQ and can not find anything on this problem, it is a 900US. As for reinstall the chipset/manufacture not sure how to do that.

try this update for keyboard controller.

if that doesnt help its a hardware fault. if you are lucky the cabel is just unplugged (at least partly), but normally its broken (its bended all the time you open the notebook, so no wonder..)
