I'm using NetBackup 4.5GA

This weekend the full backups got hung up on the last tape. I had to manually cancel the job. At the same time, the tape drive containing the catalog backup tape jammed and so the catalog tape did not run.

This week incrementals are failing with 196 error which I assume is because it the full backup failed and the catalog tape failed.

The nightly incrementals will run and fail but the one job that is loaded I have to manually cancel. It doenst actually write anything. Cancelling the job loads the catalog tape. However the same thing happens with it. It loads the tape into the drive but nothing is actually written and the job has to be cancelled manually.

My question is can this problem be solved by running a full backup, or will the catalog tape fail? I dont want to run a full backup if somehow the catalog tape will fail (because of what happened before). Do I need to use a new tape for the catalog in order to solve this problem?

Thanks

Yeah.. why not try another tape for the cataloig backup
That tape could be nastied

I believe you 196 are happengin because the backup window for them has closed thus the errors

You can manually reran those jobs though and it shold override the 196 error

Good luck

Ryan

Divide and conquer.
Disable the catalog backup by setting it to never run unless manually initiated.
Disable netbackup from running.
Test the ability to do an operating system backup to the tape via os,tar,dd or whatever.
After the tape & drive has been proven to be OK at the system level enable NetBackup.
Create a brand new "test" policy with a brand new volume pool and a brand new tape.
Keep the policy simple and only backup a couple of GB's
Troubleshhot any problems.
Retry the original failing policy
troubleshoot.
Do a manually initiated catalog backup.
when don re-enable the catalog scheduling
