I have an ftp server that works fine through a cable connection to a wireless router. When I disable that connection and activate the wireless connection, anybody trying to connect says that connection was closed by remote host. Is there anything special I have to do for a wireless connection, I know that its not secure but it should still work I think.

Chrispr,

It sounds like you have 2 network adapters connected to one computer (one wired, one wireless). If this is the case, your wireless router might be assigning two different IP addresses to your computer, one for each adapter.

If this is the case, you'll need to tell your router to forward incoming FTP requests to IP address of the correct network adapter.

Your right about the two IP addresses being assigned to each connection, however, I made sure that each time I switched connections that I went into the router and made sure the it was forwarding to the correct IP address, either 192.168.0.100 or 192.168.0.101, which makes me wonder why it won't work with the wireless.

Chrispr,

I'm glad to hear that you changed the port forwarding on your router. If it still doesn't work with the router forwarding to the correct internal network IP, my guess is that you have some firewall software on your XP box refusing the connection.

Check the advanced properties for the wireless connection in your Network Connections Control Panel, and make sure that the Internet Connection Firewall is either disabled, or configured to allow traffic on port 21.
