ftp server problem

We cannot seem to 'put' any files to the 2000 server more than 2 folders deep without getting an error. In other words, if we attempt to ftp to the server and do a put, if we go more than 2 directory levels deep, we get an error. If we stay at 2 directory levels, we are ok. Did we do something wrong in IIS setup??? Has anyone seen this before?

What error are you getting when you try? Can you manually create these files in the OS okay?
