I have a 2003 server and have ftp server running. There are 2 NICs and RRAS is configured with the NAT firewall. There is also a router with a firewall for internet access which the external NIC is connected to.

I can FTP to the external IP from "inside" the network and successfully login with my domain login and password but I can't login from outside the building.

The router firewall has port 21 open and also the NAT firewall forwards port 21 to the internal private NIC.

Any thoughts?

Just another clue - I have source offsite running successfully on the same machine which works through the same way using port 8081 - all is OK with that ...

How are you accessing from the outside? FQDN or IP Address?. If it's by name, may be a DNS problem.

Thanks for your reply - I am accessing via IP address

The IP Address of the WAN NIC of the server or the IP Address of the router?

When you access it successfully internally, you don't need to go through the router, so that's where I would start troubleshooting. Check the config on the router/firewall for routes, access-lists, restricitions, etc.

Can you ping the Server WAN NIC from the outside?
