Good afternoon extremely helpful and knowledgeable Avaya guru/esse/s,

I have a question relating to the fact that some models of phone e.g. 4620 and maybe a 1616 (but I haven't checked) can back up things like the speed dials that the user has type in, onto an FTP server.

I am presuming here I need to provide an FTP server for the phones to connect to to provide this function?

And then, how can I program the phone to find this FTP server?

Thanks

Here you are:
The 16xx use http so i am not sure (never tried) if it will use ftp too

For simplicity the 46/56xx handsets can also use http to backup like the 16xx handsets (using the SET BRURI in the settings file).

Either use IIS for this or MV_IPTel which I prefer. Works a charm.

Don't ask me, I didn't design it.

Thanks all,

is there a way to configure the phones without using the settings file, I am new to this config stuff and haven't yet got my head around the settings files.

This includes both http or ftp options.

Since we already have IIS servers the HTTP option is the most preferred for all our handsets, we have 4620 and 1616 that would be useful to backup.

Thanks again

With HTTP the only way to specify it is via the 46xxsettings.txt file. FTP can be configured by the handsets but depending on how many handsets you have I'd recommend doing via the settings file!

For HTTP backup, open up the 46xxsettings.txt and search for this line...

## SET BRURI
Remove the ## and change the IP address to your IIS server and the directory. For example it could look like this (with your IIS server being 192.168.168.168);

SET BRURI
If you are using a different port to pot 80 then it will need to look like this (using port 81);

SET BRURI
IIS is a bit fiddly to get working (generally permissions related)but I have got this working on a number of sites. If you have a chance I would take a look at MV_IPTel as this works brilliantly and will save you a lot of head scratching.

Good luck.

Don't ask me, I didn't design it.

Upgrade to IP Office Release 5 and forget all the answers above. The majority of stuff are automatically stored by the phone system and for the rest you can use the compact flash card in the control unit. No need for HTTP/FTP settings, server permissions etc. In fact user speed dials are part of the configuration (user | personal directory). Have a look at:
The ticks are the things that the IP Office backs up independent of any HTTP/FTP.

OK Sizbut, we already have IP Office 5.0 R8 in our system.

Which settings do I look into the Manager? Are they in the user's settings?

Thanks
