I'm proud to own an old Compaq Presario 4862 Desktop. I have maxed it out to 384MB RAM, upgraded to an 80GIG HD, 16x Burner. Simply, the works! The Presario came with an Intel Pentium II 333Mhz Processor at a 66Mhz FSB, which I believe was the last speed at 66MHz Intel made compatible with the Pentium II Processor (after 333mhz, the new 350mhz introduced the 100FSB). Furthermore, I just bought-online- a FC-PGA Coppermine Intel Celeron II 800MHz Flip Chip PGA Microprocessors/CPUs, 66MHz, 370-pin, Retail box CPU-C-800. And, eventually I am going to buy a Slot 1/370 Adapter. Basically, the point I'm ammusing is...will the CPU work on my computer? I mean, it is a 66mhz FSB. My motherboard cannot be raised any higher, unless there's some way I can upgrade the FSB on my Presario.

Please Help. I just want to know if it will work.
Thanks,

sorry back then they didn't think about it and caheck to see if you can colck that high on that motherbaord i dount it So long and thanks for all the fish.

I kind of doubt if it will work. I had a Presario (4112?) - still using parts of it - and as you know Compaq's stuff is very proprietary and hard to upgrade. I'm surprised you got yours as tricked out as you did.
All celerons use the 66fsb speed, so "that's" not a problem. But does the coppermine require a different core voltage 1.5-1.65 volts? Check the Intel site to see. I'm pretty certain that the compaq MB won't support multiple voltages.
Also, I think your Compaq bios would have to support 800mhz cpu's - which I'm sure it doesn't? I also doubt there's a bios upgrade.
But - if you get a good quality Slocket, I've heard that you can set the slocket to any voltage/fsb speed that you need! And it will trick your MB into accepting those settings. I've never tried it myself, so proceed at your own risk.

Good luck,
Don

The 66mhz FSB isn't the problem.
The Compaq motherboard will NOT support a multiplier of 12 (it's 12xFSB=CPU speed), nor will it support dual voltage processors, nor will it go down to the 1.65v needed for the FCPGA (some are as low as 1.5v).
There is ONE way, you may get around it.
Get a slotket (Slot 1 to Socket370 adapter) that has ALL the settings on it. Asus makes a good one, so you can select voltage, and FSB at least, if not multiplier.
With a little extra voltage (about 1.85v but NOT more, you run the risk of burning up your new CPU) you may get 1200 out of that little chip. The Celerons are noted overclockers.
On the downside, even with a good slotket, it probably wont' work at all, and you'll be looking for a new case and motherboard at least. Cheers,
