Hello my friends, got a simple question fer ya. You know sometimes the simpliest answers are the hardest to find. Can I put a 133 fsb p3 1ghz processor on an intel 810 mobo. I have a 55o mhz p3 100fsb, Compaq says quote" the system board can support both 100mhz and 133mhz fsb processors." Both my computer guys here in town says i need a 100fsb p3. Thus resulting in the above question. Both sticks of ram I have installed are pc133 working just fine on a pc100 fsb p3. As always I am humbled by your knowledge. PEARL LOL

well guys consider this thread as being dead. aint no way .
PEARL LOL

PEARL,
I'm sure you found your answer, but it depends on the version of the 810 chipset. There was the regular 810 chipset that only supported 66MHz and 100MHz FSB. But there was also the 810E that supported 66, 100, and 133MHz. However, the 810E wasn't very common and was phased out of the market quickly by the release of the 815 chipset.

Also, do you have a slot or socket CPU? If my memory serves me correctly, only the slot was available for the 810. Slot CPU's maxed out at 800Mhz.

cdogg glad to hear from you. I have just about given up on this project. I can not get definate answers unless I carry it to the shop. fyi I have a p3 550mhz pc100. fcpga socket 370 coppermine. As of this post I am about 50/50 on the 1ghz processor. I really do not believe it will take 1100mhz as stated by compaq. thanks PEARL LOL

I can tell you with confidence that it will not take the 1100MHz because it is FCPGA2, which is not backwards compatible with regular FCPGA.

Also, I'm not sure if it will tell you or not, but you might want to try downloading Belarc Advisor ( which is a free utility that will scan everything from hardware to software and generate a report. Hopefully, it will tell you if you have an 810E or not...

cdogg, this according to sandra;
model; p6c{coppermine} pentium111 E500-1.13G.; 1.3-1.75v.
FC-PPGA socket 370
intel(R)pentium(R)111
intel whitney i810e
thanks for your reply PEARL

Well like I said the easiest is always the hardest. According to compaq I would have to change a few jumper settings. maybe the board would have a power connection for the cpu cooling fan, could this be as simple as it sounds or am i missing something. You know it is a Compaq!
cdogg again I thank you PEARL LOL

In theory, YES, it should be as simple as it sounds. But keep in mind that I doubt Compaq sold many 810E's with the PIII 1GHz, so there probably wasn't much testing done to help guarantee stability.

By the time the PIII 1GHz came out, the 815 chipset had taken over, since it offered an AGP slot among other features...
