I just bought a new PC Athlon 1000GHZ, 256 MB Ram, 40 GB HD.
On Board SIS sound, on board SIS 10/100 Ethernet Card, AGP S3 Savage 4 Display adaptor. Mother board is AMD K7S5A. Installed Windows Me. the problem is only when I boot the pc the first time, after detecting hardware and operating system, blank black screen appears with the hour glass in the middle, does not move, when I hit CTL+Alt+Delete, the computer restarts with a question to start in safe mode, which I do, then set the display, then the computer starts all is ok. When I reboot the system, the system does not hang and always starts correctly. It is only when I boot the first time after the last shut down. I took the computer to the store where I bought it, it started fine, took it back home, did not until I reboot, anybody has any ideas..? Please
Eddie..with thanks

HI
Download the new savage 4 display driver and force reinstall the display driver. I did face that problem, when I installed a similar cpu/chipset board for a client of mine.

Thank you that solved the problem.

As I said earlier, this solved the problem, but I was wrong it only solved the problem once, and now if I shut down completely and switch off the power, when I boot again the same thing happens, the hour glass in the middle, I tried running msconfig from the "Run ", and diagnose the sequence of events, that did not take me very far.
Any suggestions..?
Thanks

U should install either W98 or W2000 Professional...
I have Me to. It worked fine about one month but when i change the video card from ATI Rage 128 to MSI GeForce MX 400 it crashed and i couldnt find the cure, just after a clean install(format partition) it worked. In W98 or W2000 Pro i even have the system worked on the two hardware profiles (i move the HDD from Work to my Home) and everithing it's ok... ________

Did you install the mobo AGP drivers before the graphics card drivers (all the mb's i have got recently have had AGP drivers)?

1 Set card to Std VGA in safe mode
2 Install mobo drivers
3 Install card drivers

Nope, i have it detected by w2000 (MSI Intel 815) and w98, but i have the mobo CD, but i dont install them... ________

For some reason, the operating system does not recognize the onboard sound card and the on board ethernet card, it does recognize the AGP but not as an S# Savage4, just a standard AGP Graphics card, it also does not recognize the AMR modem card, it just tells me in the device manager that there is a pci card. I had to update the drivers so many times after installation, and still did not work. Finally yesterday I reformatted the hard drive, and installed win2000 pro, which recognized the AGP, but still did not recognize the onboard sound and ethernet card which I was able to install later. It seems to be working, but I'll find out today when I boot the machine after the last night/early morning shutdown. Thank you all for your help I'll keep you posted.

Win2000 seem to have solved all problems. Thanks to all.
