I worked for a company that as a 'parting gift' let me keep a then-new Pocket PC when I 'quit.' I haven't used my laptop Outlook in quite a while because I'm not using that for my email, not working for the same company any more, and just got into playing with the Pocket PC (my Palm finally died). Come to find out that the PC REQUIRES me to use Outlook for contacts and email collection. I can't, because the Exchange server settings from my former workplace are stuck on the system.

Here is the problem: I can't get the #$@@%@# server settings changed, because I can't get past the initial settings to change them. Every bit of documentation I've found on topic seems to want me to reinstall or completely reset Outlook and I can't do that because I'm moving from overseas home and stupidly sent my backups home first. I am nervous about resetting the internet settings because I'm in Korea and geeting the cable modem reset here if I fubar it could take a week.

Obviously, this is a task I can put off. But it's driving me nuts that Microsoft made this program unable to function without an Exchange server and Compaq made a device that couldn't just import from text or csv files on its own. I feel like I must be missing some easy step.

I need a solution that either lets me get Outlook running so that I can get the contacts migrated from my Palm to Outlook, or lets me just migrate them some other way (everything revolves around Outlook, from what I can see, as I've already tried importing Excel, Access, Word, and other file types without success into contacts).

I run Outlook 2000 on a WinXPHome OS laptop and have a pocket PC running Pocket Outlook 2002. I can't reinstall because I don't have the disks here. I have to be careful about making sure the internet connection stays running because resetting it could mean a couple weeks without it being fixed.

I'm open to any suggestions.

Ah, and I killed the exchange server setting in the Mail control panel. I simply can't get things to start over--I just want to have contacts back up on my desktop and I can't figure out how. I don't want email, I don't care about any other backups--I just want to be able to get phone numbers and emails from my pocket pc to desktop and vice versa.
