In addition to several other freebies Microsoft has been offering (Express versions of VB.NET, SQL Server 2005, Vitual PC, etc.) they are now offering for MS Access 2007 the Developers Edition for free.

With the Developers Edition you can create a runtime version of your Access 2007 programm, package and ship it to customers without having to worry about the runtime license for the runtime files which get shipped with it.

Previously, you needed to purchase this separately.

Even though I do not need MS Access, I just thought some of you may find it interesting.

What I find most interesting and welcomed, is the twist in the MS thought. It is one way to capture an audience's attention ... and keep it.

That link seems to have gone away.

I do see a free 60 day "trial" for access 2007 available

but can not find a link for the full version, too good to be true ? or did I miss something.

>but can not find a link for the full version

Not the full version of MS Access, but the Access 2007 Runtime and Developer Extensions - I did word that as misleading, but the purpose of the Extension seems to be the same.
I guess the older Developers Editions also included MS Access.
You still need to purchase MS Access 2007.
But according to the info you will not need to purchase anything extra, in order to create a runtime version of your MS Access application and ship it, along with the needed runtime licenses and files, to clients which do not have a MS Access 2007 license.

Try this one:

If you still cannot find it, do a search on Microsoft.com using:
Access 2007 Runtime and Developer Extensions

Shortly after the release to the general public of Microsoft Office Access 2007, Microsoft will make available the Access 2007 Developer Extensions and the Access 2007 Runtime. For the first time, both programs will be available as FREE downloads.

Access 2007 provides a rich platform for developing database management solutions with easy to use customization tools. If no end user customization is required (including report modifications), you may choose to distribute those Access 2007 solutions so that they run without requiring a full installation of Access 2007. You must package and distribute your application with the Access 2007 Runtime. The Access 2007 Runtime is similar to previous runtimes in that all design-related UI is either removed or disabled. However, there is one major change: we will be offering the Access 2007 Runtime as a free download, just like we have done for the Snapshot Viewer in the past. You will not need to buy any special SKU in order to redistribute the Access 2007 Runtime. You can freely redistribute it or just point people to the download on Microsoft.com.

Starnge, if I click on the links or paste them into the address link, MS comes back saying that the page is unavailable at the moment.
If I go to this page

and click on "Access", sometimes I get to the page, and sometimes not. Same thing happens with many of the links. Maybe there are working on something.

Looks like a large chunk of MSDN is down at the moment....
