I've suggested the free version of AVG anti-virus quite a few times on this board, so wanted to post this information for any of you who are unable to get it to update its virus definitions.
You need to open/edit the AVG file called" url.ini". It's a folder in the AVG program folders, probably installed on your C drive. After you open the file, replace the text in the file with the text below and save it.
When you go to the update section of AVG you will see (in the combo/drop down boxes) that you have more server to choose from. Try each one until you find the one that works, then leave it set that way so auto-update will choose the correct update server.
[SERVER_NAME]
1=free.grisoft.cz
2=ftp.grisoft.com
3=
[SERVER_URL]
1=2=ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/60/fe/
3=Actual URL=3
ps - the server works the best for me.
