My group currently uses Word to create >1000p manuals including sub/master docs and hyperlinks, and intends to switch to FM7 for this purpose. What would you say should be the required training and what is the expected learning curve for this purpose?
Sorry scauser, I missed your thread. I've done this process at 2 companies now. A 3 day intro course for those concerned on FM and you can easily start migrating from MS Wierd. The hard part is setting up you document templates with all the relevant Paragraph, Character and Table formats. Get those right first before starting to convert. From training to switching over completely should only take a month or two at the most.
You won't regret it
If sunflower oil comes from sunflowers, and vegetable oil comes from vegetables, where does baby oil come from?
This is how I tought myself (however I wasn't working at the time). There is an excellent book that Adobe do called Adobe Framemaker - Classroom in a Book. I used this and I reckon you can get to grips with the basics within a week or 2 doing say a chapter a day. The chapters take on average an hour to get through.
Make sure you get the appropiate version of the book for the version of FM you will be using.
