Hello I have a 2521 that i have setup as a frame switch.

serial0
encap frame-relay
frame-relay 411 route interface s1 114
frame-relay lmi-type cisco

anyway the config i downloaded had no ip addresses on the frame switch. i want to connect routers to this switch with sub interfaces. my questions is 2 parts

1. with a sub interface like this
s0/0.1
does the actual db 60 connector go into the s0/0 port? what if it is a s0/0.1 and s0/0.2 multiport how does this work as far as the 'physical' connection? If s0/0.1 goes to routera and s0/0.2 goes to routerb how does this 'physically' work (cabling)
my other q will prob be helped by answering the 1st one, but it was just how to setup ip addresses to the frame switch.
thanks for any help

Hi

Have a look on for config advice. The FR switch needs 2 physical serial interfaces, one connected to each of the devices that make up the ends of the frame relay connections. These serial interfaces are FR only, and need FR configs, not IP addresses. The IP addresses go in the interfaces/sub interfaces of the connected routers, mapped to their own FR configuration.

Your router configured as the FR switch provides the 'cloud'in the example.

The physical cabling is interface S0.
The logical, or subinterfaces, use the same wires just differentiate themselves at layer 2.

The frame switch doesn't have an IP, it just recieves a frame, checks it's DLCI and forwards it along that path. The endpoints are oblivious to the processs. ----------------------------------------

Thanks for the replies i have my 2521 up and running now as the frame switch and a couple 2501's and a 2610 all connected as the clients of the cloud. i have configed a hub and spoke style config on the FR switch and I can now ping from spoke routers to the hub router. however i cant ping back to the spoke's from the hub. any ideas? i have the ip's all on the same subnet for now. on the hub router i do a frame map and a sh frame pvc and everything is active. still in the troubleshooting phase.
thanks for the help!!
