hey guys...
i am providing a frame relay service, and i want to be able to use MRTG to monitor my client links, but i don't want to poll the customer router.. i want to poll a sub-interface on my router at the NOC...
however, in my current.. i am only providing a single IP to my client, which is what i want to maintain.... i use the "frame relay map ip x.x.x.x DLCI" command on my serial interface.... creating sub-interfaces would mean providing point to point IP addresses... for forwarding packets from my network...
i have somewhat figured a way of still keeping my single IP addressing scheme, but at the same time using sub-interfaces, but i need your confirmation...
i maintain my numbered serial interface, but create un-numbered sub-interfaces, each with a rule that says "frame relay map ip x.x.x.x DLCI"... then i overload that un-numbered sub-interface to the main serial interface....
on the client end, i configure routine frame relay setup and commands, and make his default route the IP address of my main serial interface...
this way, i give the client one IP address, but maintain sub-interfaces for my MRTG queries...
will this work...?..
all help appreciated...
