If we have a T1 coming onto our facility, but we are only utlizing 25% of the channels, how can I separate those channels in order to use a few for a different task?

collinsw,

use any tdm multiplexor, such as RAD DXC-4.
it's a box with one t1 input and 8 fractional t1 outputs. simple, reliable, cheap. no headache.

It all depends what you want to do with them. You will probably have to get together with your service provider
to have the T1 channels provisioned. What is the T currently being used for..incoming, outgoing, two way, etc...

prflash,

We are using the T1 for a dial-in function. A user dials the main ext., and then is transfered to channel 1, if channel 1 is busy, then the user is directed to channel 2, and so on and so forth... No one ever calls directly to the different channels.

dwalin,

I will check on a tdm multiplexer that is compatible with our switch. Or do they all have multicompatibility?

We've used Larscom Split-T multiplexers on our Definity. You can get one on Ebay for almost nothing

collinsw,

it is compatible to any device that uses t1 circuits. multiplexors work on the physical and transport layer, they don't do anything with data in timeslots. a multiplexor just switches timeslots according to preset rules, i.e. those timeslots to one t1 and these to another t1. simple.

We have a multiplexer, so with that being said, does anyone know the code/procedures for setting this up in a Definity switch?

Build the DS1 to match the multiplexer (esf - D4 etc.) the allocate the channels that are being passed to the switch to a trunk group.
