Hello all,

Since trying to use FPW on the second screen on a second card I was wondering if I could get it to work on the second screen using one of those dual cards.

So I was wondering if there was and body with FPW26 and happens ot have such a video card, if they would test it out for me. Start you favorite FPW program and drag it onto your second monitor and see if it still works.

I would highly appreciate it, so that I don't drop some cash on something that won't work.

Thanks in advance to all.

Hi Brak:

There are many cards that can display on dual monitors. One I tested in 2000 was Matrox 450. I have seen new generation cards already comes with dual monitor support, such as ATI. I have al so worked with XP using any 2-different brands of Video cards. You can go check on the web for ATI, Matrox, etc. video cards and select the one you prefer.

But will FoxPro for Windows work in the second screen.

I currently have two video cards in my computer using Win98 multi-monitor support. When I drag my FPW app's screen over to the second monitor it becomes invisable. If I have the app stradle the monitors the half on the first monitor is visable and functional, but the half on the second monitor is invisible.

So I thought maybe getting a dual head card might work. But I wanted confirmation from someone who actually tried to run a FPW app on the second monitor.

The card I am thinking of getting just happens to be a Matrox 450 :) So my question is, dous the FPW app run normally on the second monitor?

Brak,
No, not even early versions of VFP worked on dual screens! They were based on the old Win16 API that were used in FPW 2.x, and only newer 32-bit OS supported these required API calls. If you go to yo'll actually see me demoing VFP 6.0 (beta) on dual monitors under Windows 98 preview back in June 1998!

So FPW won't work on a dual head video card? I know it won't work on a second video card, but what about on the same video card.

Isn't it handled that you have just one big 2048 x 768 desktop that just happens to be spanned over two monitors, as opposed to Win98's linking of two separate video cards?

I was hoping since it was a dual head video card that it might work.

Brak,
If I understand, you are asking a question that I can't answer - I don't have that Win98 system anymore. I guess the only way to know for sure whether FPW (or an FPW app?) will work on a given video card / monitor(s) setup is to try it. Maybe a local dealer will let you try this card in your system before you actually purchase it.

That is why I asked.

To see if anyone here has a dual monitor card and if so for them to inform me as to if they are able to run a FPW app on the second screen.

That way I know if it will work before I buy. The card will be ordered on-line so there is no option to "try before I buy"

Helo Brak:

Sorry about that, I could not log to the Tek Tips and forgot completely about you.

I will try to test the situation and get back to\you.

Well I now have my answer.

I went and bought a Matrox 450G Dual Head Video card.

The computer treats it like it was two video cards, so you can have two 800x600 displays instead of 1 1600x600 display. so hence the result of FPW was the same. As I drug the window over into the second screen it vanished.

I don't understand why the EXE act up, but not the APP. Or really either or. I have an old cirra 1994 C++ compiler (Borland 4.5) and I can run that complied code on any monitor with no problems.

So the mystery continues. :(
