I have an application is running on an NT4 Network with Windows 98 workstations all printers are network printers and thus every work station has a capture statement within the printer properties. When printing a lengthy report all printers are producing a "printer not ready" message after
about 15 pages and then returning to the beginning of the report. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,
1. I think you might have disabled the SPOOLING of reports under the printer setup for print jobs. While this directly send it to the printer port without wait time, this also produces the above error you get. .... May be, if this is not your problem... then...
2. The WinNT server may not have sufficient space in the spooling directory or such limitations. You can check for such limitations...
3. You can also read my FAQ posted...

Tom10,
When you say all printers are network printers, can you tell us how they are connected to the network. Are they:
1. on Jet Direct Print servers,
2. connected to a computer that acts like a print server for a living,
3. connected to a File server.
4. connected to a local workstation as a shared printer.

I would agree with Ramani's answer only if you select #3 above. To me it sounds like the printer servers memory is filling up and the print operation needs to be controlled from a computer spooling abilities. If you selected 3 or 4, you may have also have a rights or limited hard drive space problem on the computer the printer is connected to.

Point in fact. I have 3 printers on Jet Direct Print Servers. During heavy printing operations to those printers or when 2 people request a print operation at the same time I get the same error as you. We solved the problem by turning spooling on when printing to these printers. I also have three(3) - dig this - pentium 75mz - computers with 3 printer ports in them controlling 3 printers each. That is all they do for a living. We never have a print problem with those printers and we task them very heavly, like about 3 reams of paper per printer per day. Spooling is off on the workstation to those printers, But on the computer controlling the printers, Spooling is On. David W. Grewe

Your Welcome Infinitelo,
If you want a better one. I have a 486 maxed out with 16meg memory running Win95 and it is my print server in my house controlling My HPLJ4 Laser, Hp7000 Ink jet, and my Panasonic 24ie dot matrix printer. It also has 3-8gig SCSI hard drives in it to store my MP3/WMA files and it also has my old SCSI HP Scanner connected to it. David W. Grewe
