Forums...again

I want to create a forum with the basic structure:

I am the first message
Re: I am the first message
Re: Re: I am the first message
Re: I am the first message


etc...

except this is being bloody awkward. And I can't get my head round how to do it. I don't want to use CFTREE. I know there are easier ways to write forums than the above (because the problem is with getting it to output the data in this form, rather than getting a forum to work!!!) - but I like this style.

Please help!
