formulas not working

when entering any formula into a cell, press enter, and the cell displays the formula as if it were text, it does not calculate.

I went to options and everything looks correct, auto calculate, no protection set, etc.

anyone have any experience with this?

I figured it out,

options, view, window options, uncheck "formulas"

odd, never came across this before,

In Excel 97 in Tools/Options, on the "View" tab, there is a check box for "Formula". This box, when it's checked will cause the formulas to be shown, and not there results.

There should (if MS is consistent) be something similar in 2000 Mike
