hi, yup im a newbie when it comes to formatting computers so here goes... i've never formatted a computer and im planning to format it soon because there are so many corrupted files and so many unwanted things in the computer. i want to format my laptop, which has a C:/ and a D:/. im pretty sure it is only one HD partitioned so i wanted to know how i format both at the same time. my C:/ contains all my windows files and D:/ are for personal files. if you could, please send me a detailed step by step guide on formatting and then reinstalling windows xp (though im sure i just leave it in the cd rom drive and it will automatically reboot?). THNX! =)

You will proboly want to format d: firstand the c: i have never formated on a partioned hdd before so i dont know of the exact specifics on all of this. But to format go to dos then at the prompt type in you drive ie. c: or d: then when it pulls it up type format d:

Format the C drive. You must make the C partition a bootable one in a multi drive/partition setup, even with multi-boot systems. The nice thing is you can format and reinstall your OS on C and all your files will still be there on D.
