I have the feeling the answer to this is no but I figured I would ask:

In Access 2003, is there any way to format the background colors of only certain cells of a form in datasheet view?

Make sure that your formatting toolbar is selected. Switch to datasheet view and select the background color that you want using the button. If the color selectors are not there then right click on a blank area of toolbar and select "Formatting (Datasheet)" (The datasheet part will appear when you are in datasheet view mode)

Hope that helps.

When I select specific columns in datasheet view and try to apply a background color, the background color of all cells changes.

How are ya krets . . .

Have you tried [blue]Conditional Formatting?[/blue]

I haven't. How flexible is Conditional Formatting though?

What I have is a crosstab query in datasheet view that is counting the number of errors that a technician has made. Each column corresponds to an error and the data will be the number of times the tech has made that error.

The errors have a Severity of either Major or Minor and I'd like to shade those that are major to make them stand out.

Krets,

I tried AceMan's idea and it should work great for what you want.

Star for Aceman!

What did you use for the conditions?

You can set up to 3 conditions, plus default . . .

Krets,

I used Field is equal to "Major" and "Minor" (no quotes) you can actually set them to whatever text you want it to be if you only need the two. Like AceMan said, you can do up to 3 plus the default.

In [blue]form design view[/blue] select the field you want to format then [blue]MenuBar[/blue] - [blue]Format[/blue] - [blue]Conditional Formatting[/blue]. I think you can figure it out from here. If not . . . let us know (state your conditions if you return).
