I have a report that has one subreport. In the details section of the main report there are text fiels and lines that basically build a shell of a formatted report and then the subreport puts data within this shell.

The only problem when the shell receives more than 5 records (for example) from the subreport then when you go to the next page the shell disappears leaving just the information from the header/footer and details from the subreport.

Is there a way to do this so that the shell (as I call it) does not disappear after going to the next page?

Thanx

JB

This all depends on how you are using the Page/Report headers & footers - a page header will be the same for each page of your report whereas a report header will only appear once.

Thanks for the response Trendsetter.

The report is not using report headers/footers.

The "shell" is built in the main report's detail section which also holds the subreport. I would think that this shell should stay for every page because it is in the detail section.

If by "shell" you mean report formatting similar to

Staff ID Name Address Phone No.

If this is in the detail section it will only appear once for any specific data set. If your data goes to a number of pages the formatting will only appear once.

I would suggest that this formatting should be entered into the Page Header and then no matter how big the detail section becomes the records on each page will always have a format above them.

Thanks again for the response Trendsetter.

That would be best case scenario having report headings.

But the report I am dealing with has headings down the left hand side of columns of the data (returned from the subreport) with lines surrounding the data (returned from the subreport). One page is nicely laid out with data within the grid (manually built with lines) and then the next page has no grid/headings.

Any ideas on how to accomplish this another way?

Thanx

JB

Can you forward it to me so that I can see the problem and maybe come up with a solution?

Main Report

Page Header ------------------------
TITLE information

Detail -----------------------------
Detail (subreport) ----
TEXT1 DATA1
TEXT2 DATA2
TEXT3 DATA3

Page Footer ------------------------
FOOTER information

So, when there is more than one page of information in the detail section of hte subreport then the text fields in Detail section of Main Report disappear after the first page.

Ideas?

forgot to include address, sorry........

send it to frank@fhsservices.co.uk

From what you have forwarded it is difficult for me to understand why you are using a subreport - I don't see anything in there that could not be accomplished with a standard report with titles (labels) down the left hand side and formatting every page.
