Boot from it and run fdisk to create you partition(s) - enable large disk support for fat32 filestore (or it will create fat(16) partition - max size 2GB). Now reboot - with 98/ME the install CD is bootable (so change bios to boot from CD) - and will prompt to format new partition(s) before starting install. 95 (apart from very last version OSR2.5 I believe) Cd not bootable - so need to boot from floppy with CD support - and start install by typeing x:\setup where x: is CD drive. This also works for 98/ME.
NT/2k/XP install CDs all bootable and include tools for partitioning/formatting drive (including removing existing partitions). So, just boot from CD, choose new install and follow instructions.
Linux distributions usually include formtting tools - just boot from install CD and follow instructions.
