formating DataTextField in DropDownList

Hi,
I have a dropdownlist where the DataTextField is a 6 digit integer (selected from a table) which contains the year and month - YYYYMM.
I would like to display this in the dropdownlist as MM/YYYY
Is this possible and if so how? Code snippets appriciated.
