I inherited a label report where the Names and Addresses were put in the Details section instead of Group 1. I moved the data to Group 1 but now I can't get the report to print multiple columns.

In the Section Expert, Details section, Format with Multiple Columns is check but greyed out. In the Layout tab there is no Format Group with Multiple Columns option.

How do I format this report so the data in Group 1 prints in multiple columns?

Thanks,

Hillary

Hi,
Groups do not have that option...

Redesign the report and use the Mailing Label format
( from the report expert) needed for your labels..

You can format groups in multiple columns. It is odd that the multiple columns is grayed out and that the layout tab is missing "format groups with multiple columns". It sounds like you don't have a group, but when I just tested, the format groups option is still there, even with no groups. What version of CR is this?

The problem is because you didn't turn on the multi-column option in the detail section.

The only multi-column option I see is Format with Multiple Columns in Section Expert>Details. The option is checked but it is also greyed out.

Is there another option/control somewhere else and I'm just missing it???

Thanks,

Hillary

In the DETAIL section, not in the Group Header section, you must turn on the option to format as multiple columns.

The details section is where the option Format Multiple Columns is checked and is greyed out.

Then, on the layout tab, the option Format Group with Multiple Columns doesn't even exist.

Thanks,

Hillary

If the Format with Multiple Columns option in the DETAIL section is not available, I suspect your report has more than one Detail section (Detail A, Detail B, ...). Remove those extra detail sections.

You are correct that there were multiple detail sections (Detail A, Detail B, etc...) I deleted the multiple sections. All the other items on the Details>Common tab that were greyed out also are now available except Format with Multiple Columns...argggg. ie Free-Form Placement, Underlay Following Sections, etc...

If you can think of anything else to try please let me know.

Thanks again,

Hillary

I would start the report from scratch. Sounds like it was created using the label wizard, so you don't have the full freedom to modify it.
