Format field Query for export as text file.

I need to export field a phone field from a query as fixed field text file. How do I make it a 12 character phone field that will export with the format 999 999-9999. Even though it shows up fine in the query, even if I put a mask on it and say to store with space and dash, it reverts in the export to 10 digits removing the space and dash. Is there a way to do this without programming such as through the format property?

How are you exporting it? and what are you exporting to
.ASC or CSV or what?
From where, the export on the queries TAB?

I am exporting it as external file. Type: Text file. Fixed Width to a main frame.
