format.css file save

I have dreamweaver8 and while starting a new site i save the index html file fine and it comes up under site file as a d however when i save format css it comes up in file box as a little white box with blue and red innit!! and all the codeing shows up in frontpage. Can you help please am tearing my hair out..Am no expert so please be gentle

Looks like your files have got associated with FrontPage.
Solution 1. Uninstall FrontPage
Solution 2. Associate your CSS and HTML files with DW. To do this open an explorer window containing your CSS file, right click, select Open With then select Choose Program. Select DW, check the 'Always use this program...' then click OK. Repeat for your HTML file.
