I have a Word template that has a bunch of form fields in it. When a user opens the template the first field is for a document number, each page has this field in the upper right hand corner.

This document is 4 pages long and I would the user to put the document number in the first field and then auto populate the same field on the other 3 pages.

Thanks any help.

The first text box:
Check the box for Calculate on exit.
Fill in the bookmark: DocNumber

Remaining textboxes:
Type: Calculation
Expression: =DocNumber

One more thing. If I put a character in the field it doesn't update the other fields.

An example of the part number would be:
123-ABC-456

Can this be done?

Do the first text box the way we discussed.

On the other pages, get rid of the text boxes and instead use:

Insert > Reference > Cross-reference
Choose Bookmark
Choose DocNumber

An alternative:

The first text formfield box:
Check the box for Calculate on exit.
Fill in the bookmark: DocNumber

Then anywhere (anywhere at all) you want that formfield value:

Press Ctrl-F9 (which puts in curly field brackets).
Type the name of the formfield - DocNumber.

This makes fields -rather than formfields. As the other locations just require a value (not a user input) there is no need to use other formfields.
