How can I change my existing windows password if I have forgotten it? Should I just delete myself as a user and create a new user for myself? Is that possible? Any suggestions on this would be really appreciated.

Hit cancel when asked for a password, drop out to a DOS window.

And delete the ????????.pwl file from c:\windows..

Also... not a bad idea to clean up the SYSTEM.INI settings under [Password Lists] and any registry entries for your old user name. This is where the issue can get a little sticky.
