Mike - I have a very weird situation. I have a company that has 4 locations that are all tied together via router to router VPN. The VPN has worked well in the past, but now doesnt. The strange thing is that there is full connectivity through ping, tracert...but not up to layer 7. Strangely, one of the locations works fine. All the computers are running Windows 2k. On the server I have WINS running and each computer is configured to that WINS server. If I look at the WINS active registrations, the remote computers are visable. If I ping the remote computers for my workstation I get success...even if I use the UNC name!!! On my server I have Symantec corporate AV that monitors all the pc's, even those thru the VPN. It records the remote PC's checking in daily!!! The server is configuring just in a workgroup setting. In the network places menu, the remote computers arent displayed. I have even enabled IP Helper on the routers...although questionable if I have it done right. Any ideas?

Send me an email off line... I have a feeling this may take more then what can be easily written up here.

But the short version is to get back to your original config on one site and your hub site. If it was working, lets stick with that config first. Then forward me the 2 configs.. with IPs edited of course :) Also, any changes that had been made around the same time.

Debug will be your friend on this I think.

So you can ping/traceroute both by IP and name? PC names register in WINS?

What exactly stopped working and what is the error code/condition/message?

Do you have logging enabled on the routers? any syslog messages? Again, syslog can be your friend on this for troubleshooting. If you need a syslog server, look at Kiwi for a nice freebie that can be upgraded for a very reasonable rate.
