For some reason the order of files in open file dialogues is no longer aphabetical - presumably a registry entry has changed. I tried tools>folder options>apply to all folders - no dice. Anybody know how I can get alpha order back?

Thanks in advance...

In explorer did you try first: View, arrange icons by...
Then Tools, etc.. to set the default view for all folders?

I have been ordering by clicking on the column heading - I just tried "arrange icons by" - both of these order the files in the current folder but when I "apply to all folders" it doesnt - the open dialogue and other folders are still out of order.

Do you happen to have Microsoft Office installed? I believe you need to go through (inside an Office application) Tools, Customize View or something similar.

In an Open/Save box if this is what you are referring to, Have you tried to Right-click on a blank area of the box and select "Arrange Icons By" and "Name" from the resulting Menu?

Thanks for tips. I went in the view pull down to Arrange Icons and that seems to have worked - I probably had changed the order previously without realizing I was changing the default. Thanks.
