Myriad is gaining popularity (whether it deserves it or not) as it is a default font for some design apps. But Helvetica is arguably king. Someone should make a documentary called 'Helvetica'.

It is interesting about Helvetica because I think it also a good font. There are a lot of varients, so which one claims the default slot

Perpetua and palatino are favs of mine.

Along with garamond, myriad, fs albert and baskerville

Within publishing, especially periodicals like newspapers and mags, the Times family totally dominates other serif fonts and the Helvetica family dominates sans serif.

One reason for this is that they handle justification superbly. Another reason is that many workflows were created using these and it's cost effective not to have to change those flows.

Myriad is top ten in my worst font list.

Univers is also on their because of it many varieties
