i've upgraded my old version of quark xpress passport 4.0 to the 6.1 version for windows.

The problem that i have is that several fonts that i used to use in the 4.1 version aren't visible or installed in the new version. All the fonts are stored in the default location c:\winnt\fonts (i'm using windows 2000).

Is there a solution to make the disapeared fonts visible or install them so i can still use then in this new version when opening a new project ?

Will i have otherwise have the same problem when i buy new fonts and try to install them?

I wish I had an answer for you, but I think I have the same problem. We have the font family AGaramond in our system font folder, but Quark selectively picks only a few of these to make available in our menus. For instance, if I have a block of text I'd like to bold, then I can select AGaramond Bold from the menu. If I'd like to italicize it, however, the AGaramond Italics that I know is installed in our system doesn't show up on the font menu. What to do? I know better than to use the Quark "button" modifiers before I send this job to the printers. Am on hold with Quark Tech Support as I type these words. Who will come to my aid first?
Thanks!

the problem becomes weirder and weirder.

I've just reinstalled the true type font Helvetica and all other helvetica fonts. when i Now open Qxpress the true type font Helvetica is somehow converted to a open font.
I'm also on hold with the Quark Tech Support:
They suggested the following solutions :

1) log in as adminstrator ( i was logged in as an administrator when facing the problem, so that wasn't the solution)

2) Upgraded my version to 6.5 (still no changes)

3) reinstall all fonts

The problem still exists , I'm hoping to get another solution from then or from someone on this forum.

My suggestion would be to use a font manager (Suitcase, ATM). I think if your using just TT fonts you wont get a display of the different variants of the font as you would for PS1 fonts which have separate files for all the different versions. You should be able to just use the bold/italic button with them.

My second and most important suggestion would be to use PS1 fonts and never use the faux bold/italic buttons :p

Cheers
