I need to take parts of fonts out to show that area clear. What proceedure would you use. would you cut it out along the path? if so, How?

...pathfinder palette, subtract from shape area, the font can be a font, so no outlining required (at least in CS2)...

...if you expand your creation (in the pathfinder palette, expand button), it will become a combined shape...
