I'm having problems with setting up some personal folders on a 2000 server. I have created all the user accounts and they are logging into the network fine and all but I went back and tried to add some personal folders to our public drive. I gave permission to the correct user under both Sharing Permissions and Security, and also unchecked the inherit permission box. But when I go to their workstation and try to map a network drive it either a) doesn't show up on the fileserver, or b) shows up but disallows access.

I'm curious to if maybe it takes a certain amount of time for the new shares to be updated on the network or if it goes into affect immediately?

If anyone has experienced this or knows whats happening you would be a life saver.

Try re applying all rights to the shared folder and the one below it.
