I have W2k3 server with AD and an OU with GPO setup.

The GPO redirects the Start Menu to a folder in NETLOGON share, this is different for each group of users.

The environment is a school and this works but is clunky since there are a lot of different apps (over 30) and it is slow to load at times. All clients are XP Pro.

The issue I have is that we are rolling out laptops to each teacher. The Start Menu for the laptops needs to be different on the laptops than on a desktop PC as the apps are different and there are too many inappropriate apps.

Folder redirection is a user config setting so I cannot get it to redirect based on the computer being used (or can I?) I have a group for desktops and a group for laptops.

The All Users profile on the Laptops is as I want it but when the user logs on the redirected start folder is implemented even if not connected to the network.

Is there a way of redirecting to the local all users profile rather than the one on the server?

If I take out the redirection for the teachers group the Start menu is empty, can I sert it to default to the all users profile.

Am I hoping too much of AD and GPOs.

btw all laptops have SP2

You should be able to apply the GPO that makes the redirection happen to the GPO with the desktops in it and it will only effect the desktops.
