has there been any news on whether Microsoft will fix the folder size issue in the next SP? and when is the next SP release date?

Could you expand on what the "folder size issue" is in Windows 7? That's such a vague/general idea, I'd be interested in knowing of any specific references to it, or whether it's just something you've noticed or what. If you've got any links to references, that'd be nice to see.

Thanks.

I am not sure of the exact proposed release date for SP1, but the Beta Testing for it has been underway for about a month. So it should not be more than a few months (hopefully) before we see the Service Pack.

Thanks for pointing to that, Turkbear. It's definitely something interesting. It is something I've thought about, personally, but never very deeply. I'd just rather find a solution to it at the time being, I suppose, or just "deal with" it, rather than waiting on Microsoft. Though if it is included it in SP1, that'll be some good news.

>rather than waiting on Microsoft

Quite. Given that the issue existed in Vista as well, and that complaints back then about the reduced functionality didn't appear to have any impact on the Windows 7 shell team (goodness knows why not), I fear that no such fix will be appear in SP1

My Mag is of the same opinion.
Here are its predictions for SP1:-

Enhanced Remote desktop Technology.
Dynamic memory enhancment (might be SP2)
Fix for slow booting if using 96dpi desktop setting.

But no USB 3 that might make 2012 ?

But the mag has published a third party add on on the cover disk called 'ShellFolderFix', that purports to fix the Folder size problem.

I found a download site here

Thanks for sharing, Steve. That looks like a handy little app. I'll have to try it some time this week if I don't forget. [smile]

By the way, the reverenced sevenforums thread mentions an app called AeroBarIco. I did a Google search, found a thread where that was mentioned:

According to one poster there, the file is infected with a trojan horse. [shocked] So, just a good example to us to be careful when downloading onezy and twozy fixer apps, I suppose.
