Is it ever accurate to refer to the floppy drive controller or cable as an IDE controller or cable?

No. The floppy disk drive is connected to a completely seperate controller on the motherboard, therefore it is a floppy cable, not an IDE cable.

You must be having an argument?

Or a completely separate portion of a chip for those that are fully integrated in one I/O device.

Thanks for the reply. I'm on a kind of hardware skills update course and the instructor keeps on referring to the floppy drive controller and cable as IDE. I was fairly sure it wasn't but just wanted to check.
