Floppy doesn't show in my computer

Hi all,

For some reason the floppy disk icon in My Computer does display anymore, the driver is install in device manager and I’ve even uninstalled and reinstall the driver but still nothing...

I know the floppy disk is working because I’ve swapped it out with a working one and I can also boot up with a boot disk..

I was wondering if it's some kind of corruption in the registry....

If anyone has any ideas that would be a great help..

When you swapped out the floppy drive with a working one, did the icon reappear?

Typically they would use the same device driver, my bet would be your floppy drive is toast. The good thing about the floppy disk drives are that they are very cheap.

When i swapped the floppy drive the icon didn't reappear..

I know the floppy drive is working as i can bootup from a boot disk...

I'm thinking it might be a registry corruption..

In device manager it installs the disk controller but doesn't install any floppy disk drives...

FIXED THE PROBLEM....

You need to replace the registry key below from another 2000 server..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\MultifunctionAdapter\6\DiskController\0\FloppyDiskPeripheral

Be careful, as the path above might be slightly different on other 2000 servers.

Then go to add/remove hardware and add a floppy disk drive and then the floppy drive will appear in My Computer.

The only problem is that when I reboot the floppy disappears again, but being a server i don't need to do that much.

But is anyone finds a permanent fix please let me know..
