I have a question on the Flexible Length [FLEN] as well as some other parameters. I am confused about how they are applied.

I have some document from this tek-tips website on connecting a third party server with its associated telephone card to a Nortel Meridian DTI card optioned E&M WINK. I have seen other PBX information of a similar type doing a somewhat similar thing - connecting a Nortel

Meridian PBX by T1 trunk to a Cisco Gateway, and a Cisco VoIP system. In both cases the recommendation was to use Distant Steering Codes.

this configuration example below uses a Distant Steering code of 1896. When a PBX user dials 1896 they are routed out the appropriate trunk toward my server.

DSC 1896
FLEN 0
DSP LSC
RLI 13

FLEN 0 // I was not sure how to interpret this Flexible Length Parameter. This example uses a FLEN value of 0 other Distant Steering Code examples I have seen use other values. I could interpret the "0" setting to mean the four digits of the Distant Steering Code absolutely had to be dialed, but I am not sure as to whether a "4" to match the length of the DSC code would be more appropriate.

DSP LSC //I am not sure what the DSP parameter is, but it looks like it is pointing to a Local steering Code and I just wonder as to the significance of that setting in these
Distant Steering Code configurations.

Finally on the Route Data Block

PTYP DTT // I don't know what DTT stands for and therefore the signifcance of this parameter setting.

Any additional insights on these parameter settings would be appreciated!

Thanks in Advance

RLI 13 i would have made that a 4...but the entry itself leaves ?.. 1896..is this a remote exten.. a dn in another switch.. dsc lsc tsc.. are more common to see when you want numbers routed without the ac1, ac2 or acod..if 1896 is routed to a remote user station, then 13 was never correct, if 1896 was meant to be 9 1986 + then it's in the wronge place, it should be in 90 under ac1 as a npa or spn.. does rli 13 point to a local or tie trunk

RLI 13
I have it pointing to a Tie trunk.

1896 is the Distant Steering code.

My understanding would be dial the local steering code through the RLI - RDB - TN we go out the T1 E&M TIE trunk to my server carrying 1896 as the called digits.

then 1896 makes since, (looks like a npa).. the 13 flen was a mistake, it works but takes a long time, if my guess is right,,your 1st thought was right. flen =to the number of digits your routing, the dsp tells other paarams (CDR) that it's a local call and doesn't effect routing, i've never needed to modify the dsp prompt
