I was just asked by someone at my company to look into writting a scrolling new headline program that will sit at the base of our website. Here's what they want it to do.

100% wide and 24 px tall. Split in 2. The top row has a stock ticker and the bottom reads the news from our database so that when someone comes up it go do that page for more information. They mentioned "something like CNN" where it goes from right to left.

That got me thinking Flash but I have to tell you. I know nothing about Flash but someone mentioned to me that Flash would do what I'm looking for? Is Flash MX Professional 2004 where I should start? Has someone already done something like this?

Where would I start something like this?

I've posted something about this on their forum but does anyone here have any suggestions? I'm willing to scale it down from taking an XML feed and have it go from right to left in the same ticker style. Not up and down, but from right to left.

You can definitely do a ticker in Flash but it's often not the best solution. If the rest of the site isn't already Flash as your post suggests then it's going to be easier from your point of view to go with DHTML so that you don't have player and plug-in issues. You can download examples of both vertical and horizontal scrollers here:

Can I do the DHTML and use XML as my source?

Don't see why not - there must be a version of that available for download.
