I was wondering why just inserting a flash drive in a workstaion immediately freez the computer where by key board, mouse stopped working; the only way to bring it back was to take the thumb drive out and force a reboot.
Do you think the power was an issue because, that workstaion has a scanner, a printer attached.

What type of computer and what OS are you running (...assuming Windows XP)? Does the flash drive work alright in other computers or does the same issue occur in those as well? Does this issue occur with other flash drives or just this particular one? Does this issue occur if you insert the flash drive while running Windows in Safe Mode? Are the latest updates and service packs installed? Download and install the latest chipset drivers for the computer. Also, look for and install the latest BIOS release for your computer model as well.

Have a look in the BIOS perhaps and ensure that it's not set to boot from usb device.
