Hi there

I want to make a widescreen flash animated movie for television/ cinema

What dimensions, height and width, must I set my flash document to achieve a widescreen effect on my tv?

I will use 25 frames per second, is this OK?

Is there anything else I need to take into account?

Thanks for your help

Hi

I have used Flash quite a lot to produce work for DVD and TV. Here's the top
line:

? Work at the correct size and frame rate for the TV region you want to play
your stuff in. For NTSC use 720x480 @ 29.97fps, for PAL use 720x576 @25fps

? TV's "overscan" and you lose stuff off the edges, so keep the action in the
action safe area and the titles in a title safe area

? TV's can't display all the colours your PC monitor can. Work in a NTSC or
PAL safe gamut.

? Avoid small type, static single point horizontal rules (they vibrate!), and
anything else a TV is going to struggle with.

? From Flash don't use the "Publish Settings" thing to create the Quicktime
Movie. Use "Export Movie>Quicktime Movie". This renders a proper bitmap for
each frame into a Quicktime movie.

? Bring the Quicktime movie into something like AfterEffects to sort out the
colour Gamut and frame rate issues (I think Flash can only deal in whole
numbers for frame rates, so 29.97 is out the question)

? Save money. Instead of keep burning DVD's as you experiment, try using the
s-video output if your PC/Mac has one to mirror your monitor on a TV, this way
you can preview your Quicktime files (in fullscreen mode) on the TV.

? Have fun
