You probally will have to use a floppy drive , it all depends on which the bios makes you use. If it lets you use the usb drive you should be fine but ive never heard of one being flashed from one.
last few mobo's I've had I've always used a bootable USB key...
Now the only reason I have a floppy drive on my machine is to install drivers when installing XP onto my SATA drive which is a joke as I'd rather pull out the floppy!
You can set up a thumb drive (flash drive, usb drive what ever you want to call it ;-) ) to be bootable and then put all the files on it that you want - then you can boot to it instead of a floppy drive.
