I have a system with Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

Something happened to Internet Explorer. My wife can't remember when it started but it's been quite a while. It seems that the fonts and colors are messed up. I went into tools but that didn't help.

I created another user and that instance of IE is OK.

Because of all the Email issuses I'd like to repair or uninstall/reinstall IE without loosing any of her original IE information if that's at all possible.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I downloaded the program and ran it but nothing is changed.

One thing I noticed-when I went to the Windows Office Update site the font changed to about 24pt. and no matter how big I made the window it still overlapped itself in some of the lines.

I've run Spybot and Ad-Aware just in case.

I'm at a loss...

With your mouse it is possible to zoom in and out of a web page. This setting stays until you zoom it back in or out. This can cause unexpected display problems viewing certain web pages in internet explorer. The text on a web site becomes suddenly unreadable or too big. To fix this you need to press and hold ctrl on your keyboard while you scroll up or down with the center scroll wheel on your mouse.

Bill is that an IE6 option or only available in IE7? The reason I ask is I see that on one machine that is running IE7, I checked just one machine that is running IE6 and that option was not available to me. Incidentally the IE7 browser also has a one line display above the clock that shows the size of the display in percentage, it also has a + and magnifying glass, and there is a drop down menu to use the Zoom function, all in that location.

koz,

When you say you went in to Tools did you check the various options via the Colors, Fonts, and Accessibility tabs on the bottom of the Internet Options page? You may have some changes in there that you can apply?

Available since IE 6 was released with XP Gold.

I am going to check into why it would not work for you in IE 6, as it always did for me.

For IE 7 you have several options, including the Zoom that linney mentioned.

In Internet Explorer 7, there are a few different ways that you make the text you're viewing increase or decrease in size. Here are your choices:

Scroll Mouse Control:

Increase or decrease the text size by holding the CTRL button down on your keyboard while using the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Scroll forward to increase
Scroll backward to decrease

-----------
Use the Shift + mouse wheel to go back and forward instead of clicking the arrows at top left or using the Alt+arrow keys.

------------

Keyboard Control:

IE 7 has many, but the text related ones are:

Hold down the CTRL button on your keyboard and press the minus (-) or add (+) buttons.

Minus button will reduce text size by 10%
Add button will increase text size by 10%

UI (User Interface) Control:

By pressing the ALT button on your keyboard, you can toggle the text zoom feature on and off. The text zoom feature will appear at the lower right of your screen. While holding down the Alt key click the Zoom area to cycle through the Zoom settings.

I have rechecked my findings and there is some change in IE6 that I now notice via the mouse wheel and Ctrl. Compared to what I see in IE7 they are minimal changes which I didn't really notice after coming back from IE7. These changes just relate to what is available via View/ Text Size in IE6. For what it is worth I can display an image in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and have that zoom in and out via the mouse wheel. And as already stated I can have the same effect via IE7, where the web page will reduce to about 4" square or expand to something too enormous for my Desktop Monitor.

And so as I don't totally hijack "koz's" thread I am hoping that what I suggested about the Colors, Fonts, and Accessibility tabs has some benefit for him.

IE 6 has six increments of text sizing -- three up and three down. The base size is determined by the web page you are viewing unless using Internet Options, General page you checkmark that font sizing is to be ignored and/or you supply your own style sheet.

IE7 with the wheel mouse is more granular. Each mouse wheel detent is a +/- 10% change in the web page font size.

The important thing to remember is that these settings using the wheel are relative zooms on the base font of the web page. So if you increase the size of the font on one page by 10%, all other pages will be increased by 10% until you either reset your internet defaults or re-scroll.

Yes, I have used all the Options in Tools/Internet Options.

I'm new so I'm not that proficient yet. I have a screenshots of what Im' talking about. Is there some way to post them?

This is what I was talking about in IE7 when using the Mouse scroll wheel, but I could not get that effect in IE6, which is what you are using.

See some of these links.

I have "cured" the giant fonts issue with a simple"

Start, Run, sfc /Scannow

In this users case I would certainly remove the Yahoo toolbar, reboot, and test again.

.

I have removed the Yahoo toolbar; run sfc withou any luck. I'm going to set up a new user and go from there.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions and tips I've certainly learned a lot from this experience.

Thanks again.
