Firmware update

Hi,
There are two options system and adapter update,
should one update the system and adpaters for AIX
migration purpose from 5.2 ML4 to 5.2 ML9 ?

Hi,

not an easy question ...

We used to keep our systems always on a current firmware level and never had any problems with updates.

And if your machine supports temporary firmware levels there's usually no risk in updating.

In most cases there's no need to update the firmware for a migration unless your firmware level is really old ...

If you're unsure you can go to the IBM site an have a look at the changes they made in the new firmware and then decide whether you need it or not.

Hi,

In my case I have p-series 520 server. This was AIX 5.2 ML 6. I made TL 9 without the system firmware upgrade or adapter microcode upgrade.

After 1 month there was a abonormal power failure, and we reported IBM. IBM suggested to upgrade the system microcode. Which we did.

And after that everyting was fine.

In case you have EMC Clariion disk bay, did you update it
Flare and associated software ?
