Don't worry about the size of the HD, I just want to know which is the fastest to have - i'm picky.

I want a new hard drive, and only 40gb max.
Which is the fastest HD?
Firewire, USB, SCSII (15,000rpm), or IDE/ATA 133?
Basically, I want the fastest HD.
Any recommendations.

Joel

SCSI 160 is the fastest.

...if you want to pay for it.

IDE drives are just about as fast as SCSI drives in a home computer, it's in a server setup where you will see the major boost in SCSI harddrives. Don't worry about ATA/133, IDE drives realistically haven't even maxed out the ATA/100 standard, avaraging about 40meg per second, and up to 80meg per second burst speed.

I'm not sure the breakdown between SCSI models, but with IDE, the latest drives from Western Digital are the fastest IDE drives.

Then behind them come USB and Firewire.
